Typically the slowest month of the year in regards to the figures on the register tape, add debilitating heat to that, and you have july in lawrence. when speaking dollars and cents this month just doesn’t add up, but when speaking hollers and sense, july is steeping in it, and that’s good sense i’m talking about…like th’ local acts all coming out to entertain while the locals have a brief reign….. and the local folks coming to witness and with a little extra elbow room created by the lack of all those collegians. thanks to the DACTYLS, the FAIRER SEX (who played their last show ever here this month), the FOURTH OF JULY and their pals from nebraska OUR FOX, FREE ALL BEATS, and the CHOMPWOMP team for whatever it is they call that!

Speaking of unique experiences…field trip to eskridge kansas includes performance by local heroes(local to lawrence that is)DRAKKARSAUNA and Duluthian CHARLIE PARR at the BuffaloInn in downtown eskridge…lots of 3.2%wine coolers, taxidermy, beer steins, weaponry, smiling faces, tapping feet, cigarette smokin(inside,) dancing girls, pool shootin, and down right good times and all to the sounds of aforementioned DRAKKARSAUNA & CHARLIE PARR! it was a good getaway and a show that would have been golden in lawrence at any of it’s numerous haunts, but was gilded somehow by the bar that 40 or 50 blowins felt right at home in…..the BUFFALO INN!

ARMORY fans were pleased as their band excellently began the rock portion of the proceedings, preceded by a more somber set by the angellic susanah johannes and new york folkie the chicken on acoustics and sounding very much unlike BANDIT TEETH

2007-10-21 SADIE SOUL and the Gold Label appreciation club were present last night and we sure enjoyed partying with them on their 2nd birthday extravaganza, which included, amongst numerous things; dancing in the basement to really sweet/appropriate northern soul gems, well dressed lads and ladies, good times, and of course a hasty exit by Sadie herself as i’m guessing that party goes on all night in some clandestine location only the privileged few know of….either way when it was happening, it was happening!
2007-10-20 last night hot dancing to tunes provided by”CANDLEPANTS” and “GLORIA VANDERBILT” leads to multiple broken glasses, no injuries, and GOOD TIMES…more from them on HALLOWEEN night and should be appropriate for that particular type of event! Costumes?
2007-10-19 SNUFF JAZZ got “wee” again last night taking their already unusual menagerie of musicians to task on miniature instruments, with help of Mark Hurst on video game components. what a sound those guys can create, anything but wee to say the least…especially loved the kind of beefhearty/gibby haines realm the vocal took on this particular night, the kind of stuff enjoyable nightmares are made of…….. it was ridiculous and amazing, and also ridiculously amazing!

2007-10-17 JUKEBOX JONES reared his moustacheod head after quite a sabatical, and let’s just say he slayed! hysterical and historical are just two words which could be used to describe this momentous occassion, momentous is also a word that could describe it…after giving a “shout out” to the taproom for cleaning a mysterious liquid that may have slipped through cracks in the ceiling above Jones’ former location he told the smattering of attendees quite frankly, “if you want to piss on the jones, all you gotta do is ask!” what a great guy and what a great night ……

Had a great ol time with DOUBLETROUBLE this weekend and was prideful and amazed by DRI’s performance with SCENEBOOSTER behind the scenes with all the bleeps and blats and whatnot….HOT SHIT, really it was that good. BUT THAT WAS THEN…and we have to move on, so now the excitement is coming from of all things, a jukebox! Yes, Mister Jones has agreed to play for us again, only this time he flatly refuses to be paid….that’s right he is playing his 100 mindblowing records gratis, that means free dogs, so don’t be remiss, or miss this ….and you don’t have to dance or nothing of the sort, just sit down and listen to the tunes you select for free, no cover, no charge, endless credits, every tuesday!…….
